The Danza de las Panaderas de Tarecuato is made up of twelve women and one man, accompanied by a band.
The dancers prepare three months in advance for their participation in the Concurso Artístico de la Raza P’urhépecha in Zacán.
This dance is performed during the Corpus Christi festivity and, as its name suggests, revolves around the craft of bread making.
In the final part of the dance, the bread is not handed from hand to hand, but thrown into the air, where, according to tradition, it is blessed by the gods before falling, bringing with it a blessing to mother earth, the creator.
